How to Manage Daily Improvement?
We keep score when we play sports, and we keep score in our business. In both sports and business, we set goals to achieve and measure ourselves against, and we are excited when we achieve our personal best.
Each operator in manufacturing needs to know their target and how they performed compared to that target. To set the proper target, the operator and supervisor must study and measure what can be achieved when everything is performed perfectly.
Write down the target for each hour and compare the performance to that target plus all the reasons, downtime, and defects which prevented achieving the target.
Business champions measure their performance daily to determine what to do differently now, not tomorrow or in the next game. Do not try to create a system to automate data collection. Instead, quickly correct the issue which is limiting your success in reaching the target.
