The projects(s) you choose must increase production speed, pieces per hour, and earnings. You must choose the right project.
There are several common visible signs to identify the slowest operation:
Duplicate stations or machines
Multiple operators at one station
WIP (Work-In-Process) material accumulating
The process has a long set-up time
Operators are waiting for materials or instructions
Your business is in CS1 containment and required to hire a sorting company to sort 100% of your product
If the processes are in series, then the slowest operation will provide the greatest ROI. If the processes are independent, like molding presses, machine centers, or assemblies the greatest ROI is the criteria for selecting the project priority.
Dedicate the time and effort necessary to the rapid improvement event. If the wrong project is picked the business will not achieve the goals. Physically changing the production area cements the desired production methods.
